Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards opened up about the blockbuster Mavericks-Lakers deal.
It’s been more than 48 hours since the NBA world saw what might be one of the biggest trades in history. The Dallas Mavericks shocked everyone by sending superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis and a 2029 first-round pick.
The trade had NBA stars like Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Kevin Durant expressing their shock and disbelief. Now, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards is sharing his thoughts on the blockbuster deal.
Edwards sympathized with Doncic’s situation, who was reportedly kept in the dark about the trade.
“They say nobody knew about the trade,” Edwards said. “That’s crazy. At 25, they traded probably the best scorer in the NBA. At 25. He didn’t know about it. There’s a lot more digging somebody gotta do to find out why he got traded. You don’t just trade him at 25. [He] just went to the Finals.”
Notably, Luka Doncic was the star for Mavs last season as he took the team to NBA finals after beating Edwards and Co. 4-1 in Western Conference Finals.
The 25-year-old averaged 32.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 5 games against the Timberwolves in the 2024 Western Conference Finals.
“I feel bad for Luka, man. I saw somewhere on YouTube, they said he just bought a crib and everything in Dallas. So, that sucks, man”, Edwards added.

The trade has sparked questions about the idea of “untouchable” players, and Edwards couldn’t help but joke about his own situation.
“I’m scared,” he laughed. “Tim [Connelly], if you’re gonna trade me, let me know, dawg. When Luka got traded, anybody is able to get traded at that point.”
But Edwards seemed to breathe a little easier when reporters reminded him that Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch had recently showered high praise for the Olympic gold medalist. “Thank God, I just bought a crib too,” Edwards joked.
