Karl-Anthony Towns reacts to Jokic’s comments about Knicks’ contender status in East

Towns finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while Jokic had 17 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The New York Knicks recorded a 122-112 win over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, Jan. 29 and recorded their fifth win in a row. The game saw Jalen Brunson leading the Knicks with 30 points for another dominating win over the former champions after a solid 145-118 win in November.

The Knicks ruined Jamal Murray’s 33-pointer performance, along with Nikola Jokic’s 17 points, six rebounds and six assists. However, the Nuggets’ Center was left impressed with the performance and consistency of the rivals and had high praise for them.

Following the game, the MVP candidate made a big claim and said that the Knicks are one of the five top contenders to win the championship.

“They’re playing really well. They’re well-coached, they’re pushing the pace and in the halfcourt they know what they’re doing. So they’re a really good team,” said Jokic as per Associate Press.

“I think they are the favorites – not the favorites, but I think top-five candidates for the title,” he added. Notably, Jokic has maintained a staggering average this season and has 29.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.1 assists per game.

As Jokic made an intriguing claim saying the Knicks are one of the top contenders for the championship, Karl-Anthony Towns responded to it.

The 29-year-old said, “I don’t want to talk about the future. I want to talk about the present.”

“I want to talk about what we can do right now to be the best team we can be because I have a lot of experience, and if you can take care of the present, then the future will take care of itself, Towns added.

In the game against the Nuggets, Towns finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. He is averaging at 24.6 points, 13.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game this season.

The Knicks are one win behind the reigning champions Celtics for occupying the second spot in the Eastern Conference, which they will have their eyes on as they clash against the Lakers on Saturday, 1 Feb.
