Opening weekend sets the MVP tone

The inaugural weekend of the new WNBA season is already underway. Players like Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier are already making waves especially with some top performances. The WNBA 2025 MVP race has begun with Clark, Collier and Wilson leading the race.

Caitlin Clark, last season’s Rookie of the Year, started her 2025 campaign on a dominant note. She scored a historic triple double against arch rivals Chicago Sky. Indiana Fever’s Saturday night 93-58 statement win came at the behest of Clark’s 20/10/10.

With the performance, Caitlin Clark has boosted her odds to become the season’s MVP. Clark’s triple-double vaulted her to the top of the MVP odds at +195, ahead of preseason favorites. Clark opened at +250 and was not a first option before the Saturday game. Performances, consistency, and public opinion all sway the betting odds from time to time. And now, the public opinion is out rightly in favor of Caitlin Clark.

Moreover, Fever are also leading the charts to win the championship this season. Their core and bench strength showed significant improvement against the Chicago Sky. While Clark made the headlines with her triple-double, both Collier and Wilson delivered equally strong cases to keep the MVP conversation wide open.

Napheesa Collier Dominates in Season Opener

A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier remain not too away from Caitlin Clark to win the MVP award this season. In fact, the three time MVP A’ja Wilson was the favorite at +200 odds, but Caitlin Clark made a big jump given her recent performances. Indiana Fever have also shown improvement from the preseason.

Napheesa Collier who was the MVP at the inaugural edition of the Unrivaled, remains third favorite at +250. Collier is leading the Minnesota Lynx and exploded in the first game of the season against the Dallas Wings. She scored 34 points in just 32 minutes thus taking the Wings by storm.

Caitlin Clark’s 20 point triple double and Napheesa Collier 34 points have kicked off the MVP race in style. While A’ja Wilson’s season opener was no different either. She ravaged through the New York Liberty with 31 points and 16 rebounds. However, the defending champions came away with a 92-78 win.

On the fourth and fifth position in the MVP race are Liberty teammates Breanna Stewart at +1200 and Sabrina Ionescu at +2500. The difference between the top three and the next two is day and night. Still, it’s only the opening weekend, and with months of action ahead, the MVP picture could shift dramatically.
