On the flip side, Casper Ruud, a two-time Roland Garros runner-up, is aiming for his maiden Masters 1000 trophy.

Both Draper and Ruud have enjoyed a dominant campaign in the Spanish capital, with neither dropping a set in their journey to the championship game. Both are facing each other for the first time in the ATP competition. The surface is clay, and it will suit Casper Ruud, who is a two-time Roland Garros runner-up. The Norwegian has won 11 of his 12 titles on the clay court, while this is Draper’s first final on this surface.

Ruud will move from 11th to fifth in the ATP rankings if he clinches the Madrid Open. Meanwhile, Draper will on Monday surpass Novak Djokovic to a career-high No. 5 in the ATP Rankings regardless of whether he wins the trophy or not.
