Yankees face Brewers in ESPN’s Opening Day 2025 doubleheader showdown

Yankees vs. Brewers, Dodgers featured in ESPN's exclusive Opening Day 2025 doubleheader

With the sting of the World Series loss still fresh, Yankees fans can look forward to next season’s opener, now set with a confirmed date.

The Yankees will take on the Milwaukee Brewers on Opening Day 2025, scheduled for Thursday, March 27. This game, kicking off at 3 p.m. ET, will air as part of an ESPN doubleheader. Later that evening, the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Detroit Tigers after a special ceremony to celebrate the Dodgers’ World Series victory.

With this season opener locked in, the big question remains: what will the Yankees roster look like?

The Juan Soto sweepstakes are still in full swing, as teams vie for his signature on what could be a landmark contract for a position player. The Yankees are actively pursuing the 26-year-old star, though the Mets, Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays are also serious contenders.

But that’s not all!

Dodgers on the National Stage

The Dodgers will kick off their season with the ceremonial raising of their World Series banner, part of an Opening Day doubleheader broadcast nationwide on ESPN.

As the reigning champions, the Dodgers will close out the doubleheader against the Tigers, following the American League champion Yankees, who will face the Brewers on March 27. The Yankees and Brewers will start at 3 p.m. ET, with the Tigers-Dodgers matchup scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

During the 2024 season, the Dodgers had six games solely on ESPN and a total of 16 games featured on national TV. Meanwhile, SportsNet LA broadcasted the remaining 146 games locally.

The Dodgers’ series against the Tigers marks the first time their home opener will be against an American League team. Due to MLB’s interleague format, each interleague series comprises three games, so this Thursday opener leads into a Sunday off day—the fourth consecutive season the Dodgers start with a planned Sunday rest day.

“Baseball Tonight” will air between the games, featuring coverage of the Dodgers’ pregame celebrations, including raising their World Series champion banner.

There might even be some extra hardware handed out before each game.

Yankees power hitter Aaron Judge is among the top candidates for the 2024 AL MVP Award, Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is up for the AL Cy Young Award, and Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is a finalist for the NL MVP Award. Each of them is favored to take home their respective titles, which will be revealed next week.

Favorite part? The chaos. One day it’s a blockbuster trade, the next it’s a goat running onto the field. Never boring.
