Minnesota Lynx Observe Moment of Silence as a Tribute to George Floyd

Minnesota Lynx kept a moment of silence before the start of the Friday night game against the Connecticut Suns. The WNBA franchise decided to honor George Floyd ahead of his fifth death anniversary. Lynx forward Napheesa Collier also spoke some words on the WNBA George Floyd tribute.

“George was a father, a brother, and a son, and his life, like every life, held meaning,” Collier said at the WNBA George Floyd tribute. “His death exposed the holes that are still in our justice and criminal institutions today. His five-year anniversary reminds us that we want to continue the fight against criminal, racial, and social injustices. We can not stay silent.”

What Gappened to George Floyd?

On May 25th, 2020, George Floyd was arrested by the Minneapolis PD on fraud charges. A clerk reported the police after it was noted that George Floyd made a $20 purchase through a counterfeit note. The 46-year-old Black American resisted the arrest after which police officer Derek Chauvin brought him down on the ground.

Chauvin then kept his knee on the neck of George Floyd denying him any breathing space. Floyd kept shouting to grasp for air but the request fell on deaf ears. George Floyd tragically lost his life. As the news got out of the brutal murder, a global movement began against the law enforcement departments over the racial injustices.

The Black Lives Matter movement began from the land of Minneapolis in Minnesota. And marking the major turning point and the fifth anniversary of victim, George Floyd, Minnesota Lynx kept a minutes silence. They went on to win the Friday night game by 76-70.
