WNBA Results, September 3: Dream Dominate Sparks to Move Second in Standings, Chicago Overcomes Connecticut with Reese’s 23rd Double-Double

The Atlanta Dream continued their winning prowess and posted their third straight victory as they took down Los Angeles Sparks 86-75. With the victory, the Dream acquired the sole possession of the second seed in the 2025 WNBA standings. In the second game of the night, Angel Reese recorded her 23rd double-double of the season and powered the Chicago Sky to an easy home win over the Connecticut Sun. It was also their largest victory by winning margin of the season!

Atlanta Dream 86-75 Los Angeles Sparks

The Atlanta Dream took the sole possession of the second seed as they defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 86-75. Rhyne Howard led the Dream with 19 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Brionna Jones recorded her 12th double-double of the season as she dropped 16 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists. Naz Hillmon came up with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while Maya Caldwell poured in 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

The Sparks scored the first 10 points of the game as Atlanta missed its first seven field goals. However, the Dream quickly gained control of the game and closed the quarter on a 12-3 run and entered the second period on a 26-24 before heading into halftime with a 41-27 lead. They had a minimum of eight-points lead in the entire second half.

On the Sparks’ side, Dearica Hamby dropped 21 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Kelsey Plum scored 18 points and seven assists, while Rickea Jackson came up with 15 points. The Dream held the Sparks to 28-of-69 field goals and 6-of-25 three pointers as compared to their 34-of-79 field goals and 11-of-28 three pointers.

Chicago Sky 88-64 Connecticut Sun

Angel Reese recorded her 23rd double-double of the season to power the Chicago Sky to an 88-64 win over the Connecticut Sun, ending their four-game losing skid. Reese dropped 18 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Kamilla Cardoso came up with 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while Kia Nurse chipped in 12 points and three rebounds off the bench. Apart from them, Rachel Banham and Elizabeth Williams poured in 10 points each.

On the other hand, Tina Charles led the Sun with 19 points and two rebounds. She was shooting 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. With her performance tonight, Charles officially passed Diana Taurasi for the most field goals in the history of the league. Saniya Rivers poured in 16 points, two rebounds, and one assist off the bench.

Chicago, who improved to 6-15 at home with the win, opened the night with eight points and maintained a lead throughout the game. They shot 31-of-65 from the field while 7-of-15 from the three-point range while holding the Sun to 25 of their 65 field throw attempts and 5-of-16 three pointer attempts.
