The WNBA semifinals delivered contrasting outcomes on Sunday, with the Phoenix Mercury sealing a Finals berth while the Indiana Fever forced a decisive Game 5. Both results set the stage for a dramatic finish to the postseason.

WNBA Results: Phoenix Mercury 86-81 Minnesota Lynx

The Phoenix Mercury stormed back from 13 points down in the fourth quarter to defeat the Minnesota Lynx 86-81 on Sunday night, clinching a spot in the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2021.

Alyssa Thomas led Phoenix with 23 points, while DeWanna Bonner delivered two crucial 3-pointers in the final minutes and scored 11 in the fourth quarter. The Mercury closed the best-of-five semifinal series by winning three straight games.

The Minnesota Lynx, the top seed, were without suspended coach Cheryl Reeve and All-Star guard Napheesa Collier, sidelined by an ankle injury from Game 3. Despite those setbacks, Kayla McBride poured in 31 points, including six 3-pointers in the second half, and Courtney Williams added 20.

The Phoenix Mercury trailed 68-55 entering the final period but surged back behind Sami Whitcomb’s 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one. DeWanna Bonner’s long-range shooting pushed the Mercury ahead for good, and her late free throws sealed the win. Satou Sabally contributed 21 points, while Kahleah Copper added a key 3-pointer earlier in the third quarter.

The Mercury will face the winner of Indiana Fever versus Las Vegas Aces in the championship series. Phoenix last won the WNBA title in 2014.

WNBA Results: Indiana Fever 90-83 Las Vegas Aces

The Indiana Fever extended their season with an 87-80 victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, forcing a decisive Game 5 in the WNBA Semifinals. The winner on Tuesday night in Las Vegas will advance to the WNBA Finals.

Aliyah Boston powered Indiana with 24 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists, becoming only the second player in franchise history after Tamika Catchings to record at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in a playoff game. Boston shot 7-for-15 from the field and 10-for-13 at the line.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 25 points and four assists, while Odyssey Sims added 18. Indiana Fever closed the first half on an 11-2 run to lead 46-38 and never trailed again, holding off repeated Aces rallies.

MVP A’ja Wilson scored a game-high 31 points with nine rebounds for Las Vegas Aces. Jackie Young contributed 18 points and nine assists, while Chelsea Gray finished with 12 points, nine assists, and four steals.

The Fever secured their third elimination-game win of the postseason and now stand one victory away from the WNBA Finals.
