WNBA Results, August 29: Atlanta Dream Clinch Spot in Playoffs, Odyssey Sims’ Clutch Basket Guides Fever Home and More

Here are the quick highlights from both the WNBA games played on Friday.

The 2025 WNBA regular season in its final phase and all teams are fighting for the final push for the playoffs. Atlanta Dream had a chance to become the third team in the current season to book a spot in the WNBA playoffs and they grabbed it after defeating Dallas Wings. It was a two-game slate on Friday and in another game, Indiana Fever and LA Sparks played out a classic thriller which impacted the playoffs scenario.

Here’s the quick highlights from both the WNBA games played on Friday.

Atlanta Dream 100-78 Dallas Wings

Atlanta Dream dispatched 13th-seed Dallas Wings 100-78 on Friday night to confirm their place in the 2025 WNBA playoffs. The Dream clinched the playoffs berth for the 11th time. With this win, Atlanta also clinched the regular season series over Dallas 3-1. The Wings have dropped seven straight and fell to 4-15 on the road this season.

Rhyne Howard scored 24 points, including six 3-pointers, and a career-high six blocks. Allisha Gray dropped 19 points, and Brionna Jones had 16 points. Te-Hina Paopao chipped in with 14 points and Brittney Griner had 11 off the bench. Allisha Gray also became the Atlanta Dream’s All-Time Single-Season Scoring Leader. Brittney Griner also moved into 13th all-time in WNBA history for Field Goals Made.

Maddy Siegrist was the top scorer for the Wings with 23 points and rookie Paige Bueckers contributed a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. Myisha Hines-Allen and Amy Okonkwo each scored 11 for the injury-hit Dallas. Atlanta had a 49-40 lead in the first half with Howard’s 14 and Gray’s 12. The Dream went on a 10-0 run in the fourth to increase the lead.

LA Sparks 75-76 Indiana Fever

Indiana Fever held the nerves in the final quarter to beat Los Angeles Sparks 76-75 on Friday night. It was one of the thrilling encounters as both team went toe-to-toe in the offense. Sparks had a 47-44 lead at halftime and their three starters recorded in double-figures.

The Fever sparked a 10-2 run to open up a five-point lead in third quarter. The Sparks regained the crucial 72-69 lead in the fourth quarter with 1:49 to go. Odyssey Sims’ winning shot with 13 seconds helped Indiana to snatch a narrow victory which will be instrumental in their postseason push. Sims also dropped a 3-pointer to tie the game at 74 points.

Aliyah Boston scored 22 points, 11 rebounds and six steals on shooting 11-for-18 from the field. Odyssey Sims dropped 21 points, and six rebounds, including clutch basket which proved vital in the win. Kelsey Mitchell had 12 points and five rebounds. Indiana’s three-point shooting struggle continues with 5-for-22.

Four players recorded in double figures for the Sparks but still they fell short. Azura Stevens led Los Angeles with 17 points, six rebounds, two blocks. Kelsey Plum added 12 points, while Dearica Hamby had 11. Rae Burrell chipped in with 12 points off the bench. Sparks now fell to 17-20 in the regular season and this defeat will trouble their chances for the playoffs.
