WNBA Results, August 15: A’ja Wilson Scripts History in Aces’ Win, Seattle Puts End to Atlanta’s Winning Streak, and More

Friday, August 15, saw a total of five games taking place across the courts in the WNBA. Teams such as the Golden State Valkyries and the Las Vegas Aces continued their winning streak. The Los Angeles Sparks avoided their second straight defeat by registering a narrow win over the Dallas Wings. For the Wings, their star rookie Paige Bueckers scripted history. However, even that couldn’t save them from falling to their 25th defeat of the season.

There is a lot more that took place in the WNBA, and here, we will take you through quick recaps of those games. With that said, let’s get into the highlights.

Golden State Valkyries 90-59 Chicago Sky

The Golden State Valkyries extended their winning streak and defeated the Chicago Sky 90-59. Cecilia Zandalasini led the Valkyries with 20 points, four rebounds, and three assists while Iliana Rupert came up with 14 points, two rebounds, and three assists. Tiffany Hayes poured in 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists while Veronica Burton tallied 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

The Sky, who missed Angel Reese for yet another game, saw Rachel Banham leading their scorecard with 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Kamilla Cardoso dropped 14 points, four rebounds, and five assists while Elizabeth Williams poured in 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists. The defeat pushed the Sky’s tally to 8-25 in the ongoing season.

Los Angeles Sparks 97-96 Dallas Wings

The Los Angeles Sparks bounced back from their defeat against the New York Liberty, and registered a narrow 97-96 win over the Dallas Wings. Kelsey Plum once again led the Sparks with 28 points, three rebounds, and five assists. She was shooting 9-of-17 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Plum also crossed the 4,000 career-point mark. Apart from her, Dearica Hamby came up with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Two players including Azura Stevens and Rickea Jackson poured in 15 points each for the Sparks who are now 16-17 in the season.

On the other hand, Paige Bueckers led the Wings with 29 points, four rebounds, and five assists. She was shooting 12-of-21 from the field and became the fastest rookie in the history of the league to reach 500 points and 100 assists. Maddy Siegrist dropped 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while JJ Quinerly chipped in 11 points, two rebounds, and nine assists.

Washington Mystics 88-84 Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever suffered their second straight defeat as they went down against the Washington Mystics 88-84. Sonia Citron led the Mystics with 21 points, two rebounds, and three assists while Kiki Iriafen dropped 18 points, 12 rebounds, and one assist. Sug Sutton chipped in 13 points, one rebound, and four assists. Apart from them, Alysha Clark also finished the night with a double-digit score as she posted 11 points and four rebounds.

The Indiana Fever, who were without Caitlin Clark for the 12th straight game, had Aliyah Boston leading the charts with 20 points, nine rebounds, and one assist. Kelsey Mitchell came up with 14 points and nine assists while Odyssey Sims and Natasha Howard poured in 11 points each.

Las Vegas Aces 86-83 Phoenix Mercury

The Las Vegas Aces recorded their sixth consecutive victory as they defeated the Phoenix Mercury 86-83. A’ja Wilson led the Aces with 30 points, 16 rebounds, and one assist, as she recorded her 16th double-double of the season. Not only this, but Wilson also surpassed Tina Charles for the most 30+ points and 15+ rebounds games in the league history at seven. Jackie Young contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists while Chelsea Gray dropped 16 points, two rebounds, and nine assists.

On the other hand, Satou Sabally dropped 26 points, five rebounds, and four assists for the Mercury. Kahleah Copper chipped in 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists, whereas Alyssa Thomas scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out nine assists.

Seattle Storm 80-78 Atlanta Dream

The Seattle Storm put an end to the Atlanta Dream’s winning streak as they took them down 80-78. Skylar Diggins led the Storm with 21 points, three rebounds, and 11 assists while Nneka Ogwumike poured in 16 points, and eight rebounds. Brittney Sykes contributed 13 points, one rebound, and two assists while Dominique Malgona and Gabby Williams dropped 12 and 11 points, respectively.

On the other hand, Rhyne Howard came up with 21 points, two rebounds, and one assist for the Dream. Brionna Jones poured in 18 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists while Allisha Gray chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
