WNBA Results, August 13: Veronica Burton’s Career-High Performance Extends Valkyries’ Winning Streak, Atlanta Tops East Conference Standings Following Sixth Straight Victory

The 2025 WNBA season is getting more intense and exciting at the same time. On Wednesday, August 13, a total of eight teams engaged in four thrilling contests, making it another day worth remembering for the WNBA fans. On one hand, teams such as the Connecticut Sun finally ended their losing skid, while on the other, lower seeded Aces pulled off a stunning upset over the reigning champions, the New York Liberty.

Records were created and bars were raised. In short, the league had a lot to offer to the fans. Here, we will go through quick highlights of the games. Get, Set, Go!

Connecticut Sun 71-62 Chicago Sky

The Connecticut Sun put an end to their five-game losing skid as they defeated the Chicago Sky 71-62. This marked the third straight defeat for the Sky, and pushed their 2025 tally to 8-24. Leila Lacan stepped in for the Sun and posted 17 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Tina Charles came up with 15 points and three rebounds, while Marina Mabrey dropped 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

The Sky, who were without Angel Reese for yet another game, were led by Kamilla Cardoso. She tallied 24 points, nine rebounds, and three assists, while shooting 10-of-19 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Elizabeth Williams came up with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and three assists while Rachel Banham chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

Golden State Valkyries 88-83 Washington Mystics

The Golden State Valkyries continued their winning momentum and recorded their third straight victory as they defeated the Washington Mystics 88-83. Veronica Burton dropped her career-high performance with 30 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists for the Valkyries. With her performance, she became the third player to record 30-5-5 on an expansion team. Cecilia Zandalasini dropped 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Tiffany Hayes came up with 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists while Janelle Salaun poured in 11 points, four rebounds, and one assist.

On the other hand, the Washington Mystics were led by Sonia Citron and Sug Sutton. Both players dropped 15 points each, and had Kiki Iriafen tallying 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Apart from them, Emily Engstler poured in 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

Las Vegas Aces 83-77 New York Liberty

The Las Vegas Aces, seeded fifth in the standings, pulled off a stunning upset by defeating the reigning champions, New York Liberty 83-77. Jewell Loyd led the Aces with 21 points, two rebounds, and one assist. She was shooting 58% from the field and 56% from beyond the arc with five 3PM. A’ja Wilson recorded her third straight double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Apart from them, Jackie Young poured in 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists while Chelsea Gray dropped 13 points, one rebound, and five assists off the bench.

On the other hand, Emma Meesseman led the New York Liberty with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. Sabrina Ionescu dropped 18 points, one rebound, and one assist while Jonquel Jones came up with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The defeat pushed the Liberty’s tally to 21-12 in the ongoing season.

Atlanta Dream 85-75 Seattle Storm

The Atlanta Dream extended their winning streak to six games as they defeated the Seattle Storm 85-75. Rhyne Howard led the Dream with 25 points, one rebound, and seven assists and joined the only WNBA rookies in the last 25 years to drop 450 points, 100 rebounds, 50 assists and 50 3 PM. Allisha Gray tallied 22 points, 11 rebounds, and one assist. She recorded her second double-double of the 2025 season and 11th of her career.

Two more players including Brittney Griner and Maya Caldwell finished with double-digit scores of 11 and 10 points, respectively. The victory pushed the Dream to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

On the other hand, Nneka Ogwumike tallied 29 points, nine rebounds, and four assists for the Storm. They also had Gabby Williams recording 11 points, four rebounds, and six assists. Apart from them, no other player could manage to finish with a double-digit score.
