WNBA All-Star Game: Reeve to Coach Team Caitlin Clark Despite Olympic Rift, Brondello Set to Lead Collier

Two of WNBA’s greatest tacticians collide

The WNBA All Star Game will be played later this month, with Team Clark and Team Collier to face each other. Caitlin Clark topped fan voting, with Minnesota Lynx’s Napheesa Collier finishing second on the list.

As a result of that, the duo will captain their respective sides. Team Clark will be coached by Minnesota Lynx’s Cheryl Reeve, while Team Collier will be led by New York Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello.

Both coaches have been fierce competitors, dominating the landscape of modern WNBA basketball. Lynx head coach has the most experience when it comes to coaching as she has been doing so since 1988 building one of the most decorated resumes in basketball history.

Cheryl Reeve has won 4 WNBA championships with the Lynx and 4 WNBA Coach of the Year Titles. She has also coached 5 times in the WNBA All-Star game. This will be her second consecutive appearance in the special event.

Reeve has worked with Caitlin Clark during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Still, fans remain skeptical about how Reeve and Clark will work together on the same bench. That stems from a major controversy when Reeve ignored Caitlin Clark during the 2024 Olympics despite her obvious talent.

Sandy Brondello Also Named for WNBA All-star

Team Collier will be guided by Liberty’s Sandy Brondello, the architect of New York’s recent WNBA dominance and a force in the coaching ranks.

The 54-year-old began her coaching career with the San Antonio Silver Stars as an assistant coach and then a head coach. She led Liberty to a WNBA championship in 2024. Sandy Brondella also won the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup in 2023.

Having coached more than 400 games in the league, Brondella has a career winning rate near 60 percent. The friendly clash between Sandy Brondella and Cheryl Reeve will take place on July 19 in Indianapolis.
