Wimbledon 2025 Aftermath – Unique Roger Federer Accomplishment Intact After Jannik Sinner’s Win Over Carlos Alcaraz!

Wimbledon 2025 came to a thrilling end yesterday as world number 1, Jannik Sinner, defeated Carlos Alcaraz to lift his first title at the Championships. The enthralling encounter between tennis’ current top rivalry meant that Sinner and Alcaraz have now won all three of this year’s slams between themselves.

The pair has also distanced themselves from the others in their generation. Sinner, with his win at Wimbledon, now has a total of 4 slams, whereas Alcaraz currently sits on 5.

Prior to yesterday’s final, the Spaniard had a chance at keeping his run of a perfect record in the finals of a major intact as he held a 5-0 record. Ahead of the 2025 Wimbledon final, Alcaraz had won the 2022 US Open, the 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon, and the 2024 and 2025 French Open titles without a loss.

However, with his loss to Sinner yesterday, Alcaraz now holds a 5-1 record in the finals of a Grand Slam, and with that loss, he can no longer match the unique record held by former legend Roger Federer.

Federer Remains the Only Male Player To Hold Unique Slam Record

Swiss, 43-year-old former tennis great, Roger Federer, the winner of 20 Slams in his career, was widely hailed as the greatest player of all time. While that debate now has other players in the conversation, there is still a unique record that he currently keeps all to himself.

Federer started his career with a bang. The eight-time Wimbledon Champion actually started his career winning the first seven Grand Slam finals of his career before his first loss at the hands of Rafael Nadal on the clay courts of Roland Garros. This puts him in the history books as the only male tennis player to achieve such a feat.

It is no secret that when Federer burst onto the scene, he was such a dominant force that even the best players of that generation were unable to take apart his game on a consistent basis. From Wimbledon 2003 to the 2006 Roland Garros, the Swiss maestro went on a tear, winning all seven major finals that he played in.

Federer’s First Seven Slam Finals

Roger Federer’s dominance at the Grand Slam level started with his 2003 win at Wimbledon over Mark Philippoussis. In 2004, Federer would then go on to win three of the four Slams with the exception of the French Open, while in 2005, he would win another Wimbledon and US Open, before going 7-0 in major finals with his 2006 victory at the Australian Open.

Alcaraz came quite close to matching Federer on this unique feat. Although a win yesterday would have still kept him 1 behind the Swiss sensation, the Spaniard would have had the opportunity to equal Federer in his next Slam final, whenever that opportunity would present itself.

Now, looking at the current crop of players, there is nobody in contention to match this record at least for the foreseeable future. Even with more and more players now becoming formidable opponents on more than one surface, Federer’s achievement just goes to show how great he truly was early on in his career.
