Will Super Bowl LIX Be 3-peat Day For The Chiefs? Chiefs’ Chance At Making History At Super Bowl 59

Eric Divakaran

As you may have heard before, the Kansas City Chiefs had a dominant run in playoffs after beating the Houston Texans in the divisional round, and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship round. They are on the verge of becoming the greatest dynasty in the history of the NFL. In fact, many fans and analysts are completely disregarding the Eagles and calling it a night already. However, the way Chiefs have played in the last 2-3 seasons, it is completely warranted.

The Chiefs have even gone as far as to make a deal with Pat Riley, President of the Miami Heat, to use 3-peat trademark if they win the Super Bowl. It almost feels like the Chiefs have already won the contest. Despite, all the hype and noise, Andy Reid, Mahomes, and the rest of the group knows that it’ll not be as easy as last time. The Eagles have one of the best Offensive lines, ever. They have added a stud in Saquon Barkley, who’s also in the MVP conversation and one of the best RBs of all time. They’re also physically bigger and tougher than the Chiefs are. If you look at the stat sheet, the Eagles are a much deeper and a better team.

So why do people still believe that the Chiefs will win the Super Bowl? It’s because just like you don’t bet against Michael Jordan to lose in the NBA finals, it is the same for Patrick Mahomes. Betting against him has never gone right. Especially since him and his team haven’t lost a playoff matchup in the last three years!

Lately, the media is heavily focused on the Chiefs for what they can accomplish, if they win the Super Bowl for three consecutive years. This is a good time as any, to look at all the franchises across North American Sports history who have three-peated.

The Chiefs have a chance to make history on Sunday

If the Chiefs win on Sunday, they can become the first major North American Sports franchise to win three straight championships since the 2000-2002 Los Angeles Lakers.

Which teams have three-peated in other American Sports?

Only 5 teams have, in the history of North American Sports, have three-peated and they are;

  • The Chicago Bulls three-peated, twice, from 1991-1993 and from 1996-1998. They had, arguably, one of the most dominant runs in a 8-year stretches ever.
  • The Los Angeles Lakers from 2000-2002 had one of their best runs in franchise history. They three-peated behind Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.
  • The Houston Comets won four-straight titles from 1997-2000, behind Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, and Tina Thompson.
  • The New York Yankees and Derek Jeter won three-straight World Series from 1998-2000.
  • The Boston Celtics 8-peated from 1959-1966 and is still the most consecutive titles won by any franchise in the history of North American Sports.
  • The Green Bay Packers have also three-peated, twice in 1929-31 and from 1965-67. However, it is usually dismissed or not talked about because it was achieved prior the merger.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
