Will Kevin Durant play tonight against Pelicans? Latest injury update on Suns’ star

Durant suffered an ankle injury while landing on a Spurs player’s foot.

The Phoenix Suns are set to face the New Orleans Pelicans tonight at the Smoothie King Center, but all eyes were on the status of star forward Kevin Durant. The Suns have suffered three consecutive road losses, but their recent 104-93 home win against the San Antonio Spurs came as a big boost. Devin Booker led the charge with 29 points, while Durant contributed 13 points before the injury.

The Suns’ fortunes this season have been closely tied to Kevin Durant’s availability. After a flying 9-1 start to the season, the Suns suffered a 1-6 slump after Durant was sidelined due to injury. The veteran’s return from injury had sparked a mini resurgence, helping the Suns win two of their last three games.

However, the team is now facing another setback as Durant has once again been sidelined due to injury.

Kevin Durant to miss game against Pelicans

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Durant is suffering from a left ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in one week, which rules him out from tonight’s game against the Pelicans.

The 36-year-old has averaged 25.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists for the Suns this season.

With Durant out, fans will hope to see Devin Booker and Bradley Beal stepping up to lead the Suns to a much-needed victory over a struggling Pelicans.

Time for Bradley Beal to stand on business: Kendrick Perkins

With Kevin Durant sidelined at least for a week, former NBA star Kendrick Perkins has called out shooting guard Bradley Beal to step up.

“With KD in the lineup, they looked like a championship contender. And when KD was out of the lineup, they looked like a lottery team. I’m glad Shams Charania brought up Bradley Beal as he was the piece when they traded for him from Washington. That’s supposed to move the needle,” Perkins said on ESPN’s NBA Today.

Beal has been below par this season, averaging 17.5 points — his lowest in the past nine years.

“Remember how we was talking about them having a Big 3, but they can’t fill the spots. It’s time for Bradley Beal to stand on business”, Perkins further added.
