Kuminga hasn't played since the season's second-to-last game against the Trail Blazers.
The second-seeded Houston Rockets will host the Golden State Warriors in Game 2 of the first-round playoff series on Wednesday night. The Rockets would look to bounce back after a 95-85 defeat in the opening game. Warriors, who qualified for the playoffs through the Play-In tournament, sparked a 29-13 outburst in second quarter to take control of the game.
The Dubs have been a different team since Jimmy Butler’s inclusion, and the Rockets have to deliver a special performance to defeat the Warriors. If Houston drops one more game, they will be under huge pressure to lose the series, considering the Warriors’ record at Chase Center.
Steve Kerr’s roster has been a talking point in the Warriors’ campaign, as Jonathan Kuminga is still not part of his game plan. The 22-year-old hasn’t played since the season’s second-to-last game against the Trail Blazers. Kuminga made a comeback from an injury but wasn’t seen regularly in the Warriors’ roster.
Kuminga wasn’t considered in the Play-In matchup against the Grizzlies and later missed out on Game 1 against the Rockets last week. His lack of three-point shooting is a concern, but Steve Kerr is fine with his current option and not picking his team’s key forward, who averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists this season.
“Jonathan [Kuminga] has been fantastic. His attitude, his energy on the bench, cheering guys on, staying ready. He’s a great, great young guy,” Kerr said on Willard & Dibs. “This has been tough on him, but he’s doing exactly what he should be doing, which is staying ready.”

“I’ve told him, and our coaches have told him things can change in a heartbeat in the NBA,” Kerr said. “He’s got to just be ready for when his time comes and that’s exactly what he’s doing. I would be surprised if at some point his time doesn’t come. When you’re in a good groove, you just keep doing what you’re doing and then you adjust as you go.”

Jonathan Kuminga averaged 27 points when he played over 30 minutes in a game this year. He is not getting playoff minutes against the same team he single-handedly defeated. Kerr may take a call to pick him up later in the series. There are some reports saying that Kuminga is likely not going to be on the Warriors next season.
Jonathan Kuminga’s availability is uncertain for Wednesday’s matchup against the Rockets. He’s not injured, just simply not getting in the games. Meanwhile, there is no player on the Warriors’ injury report for Game 2.
