“Why me? ” – Jayson Tatum Had Heartbreaking Conversation with His Father after Season-Ending Achilles Injury

Tatum's father also shared how his idol, Kobe Bryant also went through a torn Achilles and later, bounced back.

Boston Celtics superstar, Jayson Tatum suffered a devasting injury during Game 4 of his team’s Eastern Conference semifinal meeting with the New York Knicks. The All-Star guard had to be taken out of the game in a wheelchair. On Tuesday, he underwent a surgery on an Achilles tear which will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

During the late fourth quarter, Jayson Tatum attempted to retrieve a loose ball and sustained a season-ending injury. It was painful to see him going through the tunnel at MSG. The Celtics forward had a conversation with his father and asked a two-word question to him after the heartbreaking end to his season.

Jayson Tatum Asks Two-Word Question to His Father After Going Out for the Entire Season

Boston Celtics made an announcement on Tuesday that Tatum is expected to make a full recovery. There’s no timeline on when he’ll return to action. One thing is certain that Celtics star will go out for the longer period due to Achilles tear.

Marc J. Spears said shared on ESPN that Jayson Tatum was in pain after knowing that his season is over for the Celtics. The 27-year-old forward talked to his father over the phone and Jayson Tatum literally cried on the call. Spears shared this after speaking to Justin Tatum, who’s the father of Jayson Tatum.

“Why me, dad?” Jayson Tatum said to his father. “Why me? Why does this have to happen to me?”

The elder Tatum sympathized his son, telling him, “Son, this is God’s will. You’re young, you’re going to get through this.” Tatum’s father also shared how his idol, Kobe Bryant also went through a torn Achilles and later, bounced back.

Even, Kevin Durant also suffered a torn Achilles in the 2019 NBA Finals for the Warriors against the Raptors. His injury kept him out for the entire 2019-20 season but came back in style. Durant earned 5 consecutive All-Star selections and two All-NBA Second Team nods. Tatum would surely miss a major part of the next season but he has a capability to bounce back. Before going out through injury, he dropped a 42-point performance.
