Recovery Time for Achilles Tear – Is Jayson Tatum’s next season in jeopardy?

Jayson Tatum sustained a possible serious right ankle injury during the Celtics’ 121-113 loss against the Knicks on Monday. The tears rolled down the cheeks of the All-Star guard when he limped to the locker room late in the contest. He left late in the fourth quarter after what looks to be some sort of lower right leg injury.

Tatum led all the scorers with 42 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals, including seven 3-pointers. His injury is a worrying sign for the second-seeded Celtics, who found themselves 3-1 down in the conference semifinals.

Is Jayson Tatum’s next season in jeopardy?

During their 61-win season, the Celtics are just one defeat away from the elimination. Tatum’s injury is serious and he will not return for the reminder of the season. He could be out for the extended period for the Celtics which can affect next season. Tatum was being carried out, along with the ESPN broadcast showing him in a wheelchair.

The franchise released an official statement on his injury on Tuesday. The Celtics star underwent successful surgery to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. No timetable is currently available for his return, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

“Everybody’s concerned with Jayson,” Jaylen Brown said. “I’m not sure how bad it is. Didn’t look great. But I think everybody is kind of more concerned with that. Obviously the loss is huge. But we’ve got to get ready for Game 5, so we’ll take the night and pick our heads up tomorrow and put together a game plan to come out on our own floor to keep this series alive.”

Jayson Tatum will remain out for Game 5 which is ultimately an elimination game for the Celtics after a defeat at MSG on Monday night. Jesse Morse, M.D. revealed that Tatum’s non-contact injury might be a serious lower body injury like a torn Achilles, as he couldn’t bear weight and needed assistance.

New York Knicks players also clapped for Jayson Tatum while being helped off the court and Josh Hart showed him love by rubbing his head.

“I’ve been in a situation like that with my calf. If you saw, I just walked up, obviously respectful of his space,” Karl-Anthony Towns on spoke out on Jayson Tatum’s potential Achilles injury. “I just put my head down and prayed to my mother, prayed to God to put protection over him and comfort, whatever the injury may be. I hope it’s minor.”

Following a season-ending injury, Jayson Tatum’s recovery starts from Tuesday. It’s tough to digest for the Celtics fans but they would to see their superstar fit and fine for the next season. Meanwhile, the pressure is high on the defending champions as they have to overcome the 1-3 deficit to reach the conference finals. Boston did it twice but pulling it off again without Tatum is a tough task.
