The Golden State Valkyries completed their season series sweep of the Indiana Fever with a solid 75-63 win at Chase Center. There was a lot at stake for both the teams during the Sunday-night match up. With the regular season approaching its end, both teams are in contention for a playoff berth, and the result of the clash has had a significant impact on the points table. However, amid all the chaos, confusion, and anticipation, the game encountered an extended delay due to a shot-clock issue.

The first delay occurred in the first two minutes of the game, at around 9:25 on the clock. In the opening quarter, the shot clock failed to reset, and the problem was resolved after a five-minute delay. This was not it. Within a minute of the first delay, the game was stopped again, and required the arena staff around 19 minutes. The pause was long enough for players to walk back to the locker rooms. The issue was eventually resolved, and play was resumed. However, the delay created an unfortunate disruption in what was expected to be a thrilling game.

Golden State Valkyries Release Statement Addressing Shot-Clock Issue

Following the first interruption, the hosts, Golden State Valkyries, released a statement addressing the issue. It read, “Earlier today the Golden State Valkyries were delayed due to a technical issue with the shot clocks due to a power outage this morning. Game play has resumed, and these issues will be addressed accordingly.” Not only this, but after the game, Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase said that she was proud of how her team handled the situation.

She said, “I told the girls, ‘Credit to y’all’s maturity level, because you could have gotten distracted, frustrated, annoyed.’” Clearly, the Valkyries’ players didn’t let the interruptions disturb their momentum, and ended up registering a crucial win. As a result of the victory, Golden State pushed its tally to 21-18, and passed the Fever in the standings, jumping from eighth spot to the sixth.
