Real Madrid have gone an entire season without a proper replacement for Toni Kroos. While they tried to manage without the midfield general, clearly it did not work as Los Blancos have gone trophyless this season. However, with Xabi Alonso set to replace Carlo Ancelotti, several midfield reinforcements have been shortlisted.

In the midst of this, one name is creating serious buzz: Angelo Stiller. The 24-year-old VfB Stuttgart midfielder has emerged as a top target. According to Spanish media outlets, Marca and Fichajes, Stiller has impressed Alonso with his calmness, creativity, and vision. Real Madrid are reportedly planning an aggressive summer transfer window.

Who is New Real Madrid Target, Angelo Stiller?

Born in Munich, Stiller rose through the youth ranks at Bayern Munich before spells at Hoffenheim and Stuttgart. He is a composed deep-lying playmaker, currently the most valuable player in the Stuttgart squad. As per Transfermarkt, his current market value is €38 million.

The German international tallied eight assists in 32 Bundesliga games this season. His consistent performance has helped Stuttgart finish second in 2023 and remain significant in the tournament despite a dip this season. Stiller signed a new contract with Stuttgart until 2028.

After securing Stiller’s sign, Stuttgart chairman Alexander Wehrle told Transfermarkt, “The contract renewal was an important signal both internally and externally.” While there’s no active exit clause this summer, one will activate in 2026. This will give Stuttgart full control over the negotiation process.

Reports suggest they want a record-breaking €60 million fee. Real Madrid, looking to rebuild and stabilise the midfield ahead of the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, could be willing to pay as much. Reportedly, Liverpool and Bayern Munich are also in the race to get Stiller’s signature. It’s evident that the competition is fierce.

Potential Kroos Successor in the Making?

Though often dubbed the “next Kroos,” Stiller remains humble. In a recent interview, he told Frankfurter Allgemeine, “Nobody can replace Toni Kroos. Toni and I are similar in terms of playing style, and just like him, I try to put my stamp on the game with my strengths.” His passing stats in the Bundesliga this season were elite.

He managed 9.12 passes into the final third and nearly two key passes per game. National team coach Julian Nagelsmann even namechecked him as a future cornerstone for Germany. It’s clear that the comparisons to Kroos are not only media talk, but they’re also backed by numbers and pedigree. If Real Madrid manage to sign him, it could be their most critical signing of their summer.
