As the 2024-25 NHL season kicks off, team captains again take center stage. The Arizona Coyotes, which has shifted its base to Salt Lake City, will play with a new name and a new captain. The now-called Utah Hockey Club has picked forward Clayton Keller as the team’s captain for the new season.
Other new additions to the captains’ list are Radko Gudas (Anaheim Ducks), Rasmus Dahlin (Buffalo Sabres), Nick Foligno (Chicago Blackhawks), Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay Lightning), and Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs).
Keller is the shortest-tenured captain on the list. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby is the longest-tenured captain in the league, with the veteran leading the team for the 17th time.
The Seattle Kraken, on the other hand, are yet to announce their captain for the 2024-25 season. They are now the only team in the NHL without a captain after Utah HC named Clayton Keller as their captain on Friday.
Here’s a look at the captains leading their teams in the 2024-25 NHL season:
