Seeded 4th in the AFC after 18 weeks of the 2024 NFL season, the duo of coach DeMeco Ryans and Texans QB C.J. Stroud has done it again. But they both find themselves in similar territory as last year.

The resemblance is simply uncanny. By the end of the 2023 regular season, they finished with a 10-7 record. The win-loss record is the same for this year. The Texans clinched their division last year too, which is also the case this year. The difference this year will be in terms of the opponent they face today.

This is the 4th instance since the franchise’s debut in 2002 that the Texans have qualified for the playoffs in consecutive years. Last season, they won their wildcard round against the Cleveland Browns before falling prey to Lamar Jackson and co. in the AFC divisional round.

The transition for Stroud from his rookie to sophomore year hasn’t been kind. The Texans signal caller has thrown 20 touchdowns and has been picked 12 times in the 2024 season. The touchdowns were slightly more (23) last year and the picks were significantly fewer.

The defense has been the silver lining for Houston this season under defensive coordinator Matt Burke. The Houston Texan pass defense has allowed 201 pass yards on average while giving away 31 passing touchdowns. They rank slightly lower in rush defense while allowing 114 rushing yards on average and have conceded 11 rushing touchdowns.

OG Shak Mason has been ruled out for the Texans which might allow more attacks on Texans QB Stroud. The availability of wideout John Metchie III and LB Christian Harris will be crucial as they were listed questionable in the injury report.
