Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was discovered deceased in Houston on Saturday night, sources close to him confirmed. The wideout was just 24 years of age and had been working hard towards an NFL career, but he faced setbacks after a tragic car accident on December 17 near his hometown of Thibodaux, Louisiana. The crash also resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall, leading to charges against Lacy for negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.

Lacy went on to surrender himself on January 12 and was released on bond. Despite all the adversities, Lacy remained a standout talent, having starred at LSU for three seasons after transferring from Louisiana. In 2024, he led the Tigers with nine touchdown receptions and had 866 yards on 58 catches in 12 games, showcasing his potential as a dynamic playmaker.

Lacy’s death has sent shockwaves throughout the community of football. Many believed that he had a bright future in the NFL, however, his promising career was ultimately cut short.

His journey from a small-town athlete to a key contributor for LSU, showed a lot of promise, making his sudden passing all the more devastating for his teammates, coaches, fans, and his family. This just reminds us about the fragility of life and the impact of off-field and on-field challenges for young athletes. Lacy will be remembered as a great athlete and had been preparing for the upcoming NFL draft after having declared for the same just two days after his car crash in December.

Lacy’s Cause of Death

As per TMZ, Lacy’s cause of death is suspected to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound that took place when the police were pursuing Lacy. According to authorities, they received a call at around 11:15 p.m. regarding a weapons disturbance on Saturday night in the Houston area. A local informed them that Lacy and her family member got into an argument following which he fired a weapon into the ground and then fled the scene. As per the police, while they attempted to pull him over, Lacy did not stop which led to a pursuit. The former receiver’s car crashed and when the cops tried to take him into custody, he was found dead with what is said to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The authorities also said that they found a handgun in the car.
