The Pittsburgh Steelers made it through the tough AFC North division and into the playoffs for the second year running after missing out in 2022. The Steelers have been a regular playoff team for the better part of the decade, but their last Championship came back in the 2010 season.

Last year, Pittsburgh made a couple of surprising moves at the quarterback position bringing in both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields for one-year deals. Wilson earned the starting role, but an injury meant Fields got to start the first 6 games leading the team to a respectable 4-2 record. With Wilson back, the Steelers went 6-5 in the remaining 11 games but the main area of concern was the lack of offensive firepower as not a single receiver crossed 1,000 yards.

The defense remains the strength of this team led by head coach Mike Tomlin on the sidelines and several star players including linebacker T.J. Watt on the field. However, the addition of wide receiver DK Metcalf should provide a big boost to the offense.

What Are the Steelers’ Draft Picks in 2025?

Currently, the Pittsburgh Steelers have only 6 picks from the 7 rounds of the draft. Pittsburgh has only one pick in each round except for round 2 where they have no selections. This is quite a disadvantage considering some of the other top teams have double-digit selections. Even then, their first-round pick is the 21st overall which means most of the top players will have already gone off the board.

Positional Needs for the Steelers

The biggest concern for the Steelers currently is who will be throwing the ball to Metcalf, Pickens, and the rest of the pass catchers. While they have signed Mason Rudolph recently, he is not the answer they are looking for as a full-time starter. The Aaron Rodgers situation is growing complex every day and if they can’t land him then it could get ugly in Pittsburgh. The draft certainly won’t provide any comfort seeing as this time it is a weak one for signal callers.

While the Steelers may need to look at veteran options under center, they need to improve on the defensive and offensive lines. The good news is that this year’s draft class is a strong one for both defensive and offensive tackle positions. The D-line needs more depth as it is one of the weaker areas on the Steelers roster, while left tackle is a problem area since Broderick Jones will be playing the position for the first time.
