Last season, the Atlanta Falcons were in the hunt to make it to the playoffs till the end of the regular season. Atlanta has struggled to put together winning seasons but they had a roster capable of challenging the weak NFC South, currently dominated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Falcons, who had signed the former Vikings’ QB Kirk Cousins to a mammoth 4-year, $180 million deal last season, shocked one and all after they took Michael Penix Jr. with their first round draft pick. As Cousins struggled to perform at a high level, Atlanta turned to their rookie in a bid to push for a playoff spot. Cousins could be on his way out of Atlanta as he is in search of a starting role.

Apart from the evident struggles under center, the Falcons also had problems on defense, especially their pass rush, which was not as effective as they would have liked. The defense was unable to get the required stops, which hampered their ability to win close games.

What Are the Falcons’ Draft Picks in 2025?

The Falcons have only 5 picks this year, and it will be a challenge for them to ensure they come out with a good draft. Their first round pick is in the middle of the table at number 15, which is a considerably advantageous position for them to be in.

With only one pick in rounds 1,2, and 4, respectively, the Falcons will be sitting quietly until the final round, where they have 2 selections. Atlanta may even consider trading back so as to receive more draft capital.

Positional Needs for the Falcons

The biggest need for Atlanta is to strengthen the defensive line, especially at the edge. This draft is quite strong, in particular at the defensive end position, which means several top-quality players should be available for the taking at pick number 15.

Furthermore, the Falcons could also use one more pick on drafting a good defensive tackle. Their D-line is so weak that most of the players they selected last season and a couple of seasons back have not panned out as expected.

Sticking with the defensive side of the ball, adding competition to the cornerback room is also worth considering. Mike Hughes had a better outing last season, but more depth in the room will only help matters. As for the offense, Atlanta doesn’t have too many pressing needs, but they could look to add a center if a good talent is available.
