The Philadelphia Eagles announced Jalen Hurts will miss Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys due to concussion protocol. Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett will take the starting role.

Hurts out, Pickett steps in

Head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed Friday that Hurts is still in concussion protocol and hasn’t practiced this week. “He’s still in the protocol,” Sirianni told reporters. “It’s going to be tough for him to make it this week.”

Hurts sustained a concussion during the Eagles’ second drive in last Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. He didn’t return after being ruled out.

Kenny Pickett, acquired by Philadelphia in March, will lead the offense. Pickett played three quarters in the 36-33 loss to Washington, completing 14-of-24 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. He’s been practicing all week, alternating between limited and full participation.

Pickett’s journey to the Eagles

Pickett, a first-round pick by the Steelers in 2022, spent two seasons in Pittsburgh. Over 25 appearances, he logged 4,474 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
