Luka Doncic had his first triple-double for Lakers.
Tuesday night belonged to Luka Doncic! The 25-year-old who headed to Los Angeles to join forces with LeBron James following his shocking trade, played his first game against the former team, Dallas Mavericks.
JJ Redick’s side recorded a brilliant 107-99 victory to mark their third straight win. While James was the Lakers’ top scorer with 27 points, the former Mavs star was the true sensation throughout the game. Luka, who was seemingly waiting for one chance to seek revenge for his ‘surprising’ trade, went all out against his former teammates.
The 25-year-old came up with his first triple-double in Purple and Yellow colors. Doncic finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists. Apart from being in his red-hot form, the five-time All-Star also had a few cold moments on the court. One of them was his deadly stare at Mavericks’ bench that came during his three-pointer in the first quarter.
With less than six minutes remaining of the first quarter, Mavs’ star Kyrie Irving came up with a triple and added another off a steal to give the side a 14-13 lead. However, it didn’t take much for Luka as he quickly gave it back with a three-pointer to put the home favorites 16-14. On his way back to play the defense, the Slovenian gave a cold stare to his former teammates sitting on the bench.
Another classy moment of Luka came when he whipped up the ball behind his head in a no-look pass to Austin Reaves.
It was Luka’s fifth game for the Lakers, and it goes without saying that the Slovenian is steadily getting back to his old form.

Following the game, Doncic opened up on the bonding he shares with former teammate Kyrie Irving. The former Mavericks superstar said Irving is his brother and the bond they share goes beyond the game. Not only this, but he also expressed his feelings on playing with his former teammates.
“Kyrie is my hermano. We go beyond basketball. It was good to see those guys. We went to wars together, and it was really fun to see them all,” Doncic told the reporters during the post-game conference.
Notably, the Mavericks star guard, who finished the night with 35 points, four assists and seven rebounds, has time and again opened up on his bond with Luka. Irving opened up how he was grieving Luka’s trade to the Lakers and later talked about how they are still in contact despite moving apart. The two had an emotional reunion on the court and they performed their signature handshake as well.
Coming back to the game, Austin Reaves contributed 20 points, three rebounds and five assists for the Lakers, while Rui Hachimura came up with 15 points. On the other hand, Klay Thompson scored 22 points while former Lakers player Max Christie added 10 points, one rebound and six assists against his ex-teammates.
The Lakers are set to be up against the Timberwolves in their next game on Thursday, February 27.
