Akash Vaishnav

The Golden State survived the nightmare of blowing another 3-1 lead, clinching Game 7 in Houston. The Warriors vs. Rockets game held the highest stakes of the season for both sides, as they were on level at 3-3 coming into the game seven in Houston.

The momentum was clearly in favor of the Houston Rockets who put up a fascinating display of grit, overcoming the 3-1 deficit. Them winning the game 5 and 6 put massive pressure on the Warriors. This was visible in the starting lineup of the visitors as they started slow into game 7.

Despite that, the Golden State ended the quarter with a small lead thanks to Buddy Hield’s offense and defense. He was single-handedly carrying the Warriors, especially with Steph Curry’s poor first-half. In the second quarter, the Warriors stretched their lead thanks to the domination of Jimmy Butler and Buddy Hield. The Warriors led Houston by double digits in the first half.

Cracks were visible in the home side as their shooting accuracy went down and turnovers shot up. The Warriors vs. Rockets game looked more one-sided for the first time in the series. And at the advantageous end it was the visitors who were written off against the youthful burst of Houston Rockets.

Curry Ends Rockets’ Brave Comeback Bid

The Houston Rockets started the second half well, making some baskets and cutting the deficit to single digits. This was also when the Warriors went into a drought run. Brandin Podziemski was at the center of it, missing three’s after three’s. His accuracy was at the bottom, and he managed to score just 9 points in 40 minutes.

The Warriors vs. Rockets of moving into the thriller zone with the deficit cut back to six. However, Steph Curry rose to the occasion, driving to the lane and slashing some layups. Instead of taking the risk of three’s, Curry intelligently hit layups, maintaining the lead for Golden State.

The Baby faced Assassin was also top in his defensive play, vigorously guarding VanVleet and Brooks. He forced multiple turnovers against Dillon Brooks and also stole the ball, breaking any momentum shift to the home side.

Steph Curry lodged a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He also had 7 assists. While Jimmy Butler quietly hit 20/8/7 in 45 minutes of action. The Warriors won game 7 by 103-89 and will now face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.
