Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has publicly apologised after his emotional outburst during Sunday’s heated El Clasico win against Barcelona. The 25-year-old reacted angrily to being substituted in the 72nd minute. He stormed straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Rodrygo.

Cameras captured Vinicius muttering towards coach Xabi Alonso in frustration, reportedly saying: “Always me! I’m leaving the team! It’s better if I leave.” That incident and the brawl at the end of the match overshadowed Madrid’s 2–1 win at the Bernabeu.

Even though the result gave them a 5-point lead at the top of the La Liga table. Vinicius later returned to the bench before full-time. However, he was seen again after the final whistle, confronting Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal during heated post-match scenes.

His emotional reaction sparked speculation about a rift with head coach Xabi Alonso. Especially following the fact that the Brazilian’s apology statement did not mention Alonso directly. Alonso downplayed his reaction, saying after the match that “these scuffles have always happened.” He mentioned that the issue would be handled internally.

Vinicius Junior Issues Heartfelt Public Apology

On Wednesday, Vinicius addressed the controversy through a statement on X, writing, “Today I want to apologise to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico. Just as I have already done in person during today’s training, I also want to apologise again to my team-mates, the club, and the president.”

He explained his behaviour as a product of his intense desire to compete, adding: “Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents. I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of the club.”

Real Madrid Star Under Scrutiny

This isn’t the first time Vinicius has shown visible frustration when substituted. He has yet to complete a full 90 minutes since early October. It has reportedly caused tension within the squad. Despite his occasional emotional flashes, the Brazilian remains vital to Madrid’s attack.

Vinicius has scored 111 goals since joining from Flamengo in 2018. While his apology may help ease tensions, questions remain about his long-term role under Alonso. Vinicius and Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid will focus shifts to their upcoming La Liga clash against Valencia, determined to hold onto their lead.
