Myles Garrett's coronation seals Browns' victory

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett delivered a standout performance in the first half of Thursday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers, dominating with three sacks, including a strip sack, against quarterback Russell Wilson.

Garrett, crowned the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, had some sharp words for Pittsburgh linebacker T.J. Watt leading up to the game.

“I’ve never complained about the trophy not being at my house and vice versa,” Garrett remarked on Tuesday when asked about Watt’s response to losing the DPOY title last year. (Watt had posted “Nothing I’m not used to,” on X the night of the ceremony.) Garrett added, “He shouldn’t be feeling two ways about it going to me,” and said Watt should “apologize to me when I see him.”

When game time arrived, Garrett proved his point on the field. The Browns not only secured a 24-19 victory, but Garrett’s three first-half sacks included a pivotal fumble-forcing play that Cleveland recovered. On the other hand, Watt ended the night without a single sack.

Speaking on the Prime Video postgame show, Garrett reflected on his performance and doubled down on his claim to the throne:

“I got a lot of respect for him, a lot of respect for all the guys over there,” Garrett said. “But I’m number one. And that’s what I am, Edge 1, to defensive player of the year. I’m the guy. It’s still me. There’s no other person being defended like I am, or schemed or played against like I am.”

Garrett’s relentless pressure on Russell Wilson played a critical role in the Browns pulling off the upset win against Pittsburgh. As the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, he’s making another strong case for the title this season.

Despite Garrett’s heroics, Cleveland sits at a disappointing 3-8, while Pittsburgh, with an 8-3 record, remains firmly on track for the playoffs.
