Wembanyama finished with 50 points, breaking his previous career high of 40 points.
San Antonio Spurs forward-center Victor Wembanyama made history on Wednesday night, scoring a career-high 50 points in a 139-130 victory over the Washington Wizards. The 20-year-old star became the youngest center in NBA history to reach the 50-point mark, reaching the milestone in just 26 minutes of play.
The 2024 Rookie of the Year’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he shot 18-of-29 from the field and 8-of-16 from beyond the arc. His 50-point game is the fastest in NBA history, and he is now the fourth-youngest player to achieve this feat, following Brandon Jennings, LeBron James, and Devin Booker.
He also became the first center to record more than five threes in three consecutive games. The last three players who achieved this feat in the league since 2022 are Steph Curry, Trae Young, and Klay Thompson.
The Spurs’ rookie sensation has been making waves this season, averaging 19.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.9 blocks, and 1.4 steals per game.
The Spurs had a rollercoaster start to the season with a 6-6 record in their first twelve games. However, with Wembanyama’s impressive performances, they are picking the pace and registered their second win on the trot.
