Valkyries vs. Wings: Dallas Misery Continues as Golden State End its Losing Streak through 2nd Half Comeback

The Wings posted a 3-11 record on the road this season, the second worst by a team.

Golden State Valkyries ended their three-game losing streak with a 86-76 home win over the Dallas Wings on Friday night. Dallas’ second half horror continues in the WNBA as they dropped a game after taking a double-digit lead in the opening quarter. The Wings suffered fifth loss in their last six games and fell to 7-18 in the regular season.

Tiffany Hayes led the Valkyries with 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists. Janelle Salaun added 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in the dub. Carla Leite chipped in with 14 points off the bench and Temi Fagbenle added 11 points with 8 rebounds. Golden State avenged last month’s loss against Dallas where Paige Bueckers scored 20 points.

Valkyries Secure 11th Game of the Season after First Quarter Downfall

Tiffany Hayes started the game with back-to-back threes for the Valkyries but Dallas Wings went on a 12-2 surge to take the double-digit lead in the opening quarter. Dallas couldn’t sustain the lead as Golden State dropped a 9-0 run to reduce the deficit to six points at the break. Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas with 11 points in the first half.

The third quarter tested offensive strength of both teams and the Valkyries opened the lead for the first time since Tiffany Hayes’ consecutive threes in the first quarter. With a 33-24 surge in the period, Golden State entered the final quarter with a crucial three points.

One month back, the Wings outscored the Valkyries 22-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the game and the same story repeated in reverse at the Bay Arena. Golden State outplayed Dallas 23-16 to snatch the victory and take the first victory after three straight defeats. Hayes hit 5 of 6 free throws and Veronica Burton dropped 3 of 4 down the stretch to complete the victory.

For the Wings, Paige Bueckers scored 17 points, and six assists while Arike Ogunbowale added 16. Aziaha James went off for 13 points and Haley Jones had 10. The Wings posted a 3-11 record on the road this season, the second worst by a team in the regular season.
