Tyrese Maxey Injury Update: 76ers’ All-Star guard set to be sidelined with hamstring injury

Maxey sidelined with hamstring injury, adding to the 76ers' challenges early in the season.

Philadelphia 76ers star point guard Tyrese Maxey is expected to miss several weeks due to a hamstring injury, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Maxey sustained the injury in Wednesday’s 110-98 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, exiting in the third quarter. He ended the night with 12 points, one rebound, and one assist while shooting 5-for-13 from the field in 32 minutes.

A complete evaluation of Maxey’s condition is scheduled for later Thursday, but the team intends to be cautious. Maxey has reportedly been managing hamstring soreness for some time.

Maxey’s absence comes at a critical time for the 76ers, who have struggled early in the season. The 23-year-old guard has been a bright spot, stepping up significantly with Joel Embiid and Paul George sidelined for the season’s opening stretch.

Maxey has shouldered the offensive burden, averaging 27.6 points, 3.9 assists, and three rebounds per game while leading the league with 39.7 minutes per game. His shot attempts have also increased notably, demonstrating his importance to the team’s offense.

Joel Embiid nearing return amid Tyrese Maxey absence

The Sixers’ challenges are compounded by the absence of their cornerstone player, Joel Embiid. The former MVP has missed the first seven games due to a knee issue and is currently serving a three-game suspension following an incident involving a media member.

Embiid is slated to return against the New York Knicks on November 12, providing much-needed relief for Philadelphia. However, the team will have to cope without Maxey’s dynamic scoring and playmaking during his recovery.

The 76ers, now 1-6 and tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the league’s worst record, will need to regroup quickly. They aim to secure their second win of the season when they face the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday at 10:00 p.m. ET.
