Jalen Hurts' incredible numbers behind the Tush Push!
Philadelphia Eagles fans will breathe a sigh of relief now that the NFL owners meeting ruled against banning the ‘Tush Push’ play. This play, also referred to as the ‘Brotherly Shove’, has become a staple for the Eagles on short 1-yard conversions, and they run it quite effectively on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1.
Philadelphia has been so good at using this play that many teams have come out and challenged the validity of it, citing various explanations from injury to being against the rules of the game. Green Bay has led its opposition this offseason, but the recently concluded owners’ spring meeting saw only 22 team owners vote for the ban. In order to uphold the ban, 24 of the 32 owners needed to have voted in favor of the ban.

Philly has used the ‘Tush Push’ extremely well all over the field whenever they have needed it. But the goal line is a whole different matter. The Eagles have been so effective in running this play that quarterback Jalen Hurts has astonishing numbers that demonstrate just how good of a play it is.

For better context, Jalen Hurts has 55 career rushing touchdowns out of which 33 of them are from the ‘Tush Push’ play. That means 60% of his rushing touchdowns have come from the one-yard line with the backfield player assisting him as he tucks in behind the center and in for the score.

For more context, stats indicate that Philly has converted 87% of the times when they run the ‘Brotherly Shove’, far more efficient than the rest of the league, which is at 71%. Apart from the Eagles, the only other team to enjoy decent success from this play is the Buffalo Bills, who rely on quarterback Josh Allen and his strength.
None of the other teams have been able to replicate the efficiency of the play, which gives the Eagles a clear edge over the other teams. Nevertheless, one thing is for sure: we can expect many more Tush Pushes over the course of the 2025 season, and Hurts will be adding plenty more scores along the ground.

I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unites and entertains like nothing else!
