Tua Tagovailoa Clears the Air and Issues Public Apology for Throwing Shade at Teammates Following the Dolphins’ Week 6 Loss

The Miami Dolphins are 1-5 after 6 weeks of football, and the entire team is under a strenuous time. Head coach Mike McDaniel is on the hot seat, while Tyreek Hill is out for the season, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is clearly frustrated.

Having said that, the Dolphins’ quarterback addressed his press conference yesterday and issued a public apology to his teammates for the comments he made after the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

In Tagovailoa’s media session, the Dolphins’ quarterback took full accountability for his comments against his teammates, which he understands should stay within the confines of the team’s locker room.

“As a leader of this team of the Miami Dolphins, the comments that had been said, I would say I’ve made a mistake and I’m owning up to that right now,” Tagovailoa said immediately on commencing the interaction with the media.

“For myself, I gotta look at myself as the leader protecting the team. I don’t feel like I did that to the best of my abilities. I felt like I let the emotions of the game get to me after the game. And, you know, that’s something that I can learn from as a leader on this team, and what happens in-house should be protected. And none of that should have gotten out. And so I want to publicly apologize about that.”

Tagovailoa’s heartfelt apology felt sincere, and it has also been reported that he spent much of the past couple of days meeting with his teammates and apologizing to them on a one-to-one basis as well.

Tagovailoa’s Comments Post Loss to Chargers in Week 6

Feeling the stress of not just the loss to the Chargers last week, but the overall horrible 1-5 start to the season, Tagovailoa ended his post-game press conference by throwing the leadership of the team under the bus.

His comments were not taken in good spirits and became controversial very quickly. When asked how the team can refrain from a mentality that such things (losses) keep happening to them, Tagovailoa stated that it starts with the leadership and the importance of players attending players-only meetings and coming to the meetings on time.

“Well, I think it starts with the leadership in helping articulate that for the guys, and then what we’re expecting out of the guys, right? We’re expecting this. Are we getting that? Are we not getting that? We have guys showing up to only player only meetings late, guys not showing up to player only meetings. Like there there’s a lot that goes into that. Do we have to make this

mandatory? Do we not have to make this mandatory? So, it’s a lot of things of that nature that we got to get cleaned up.”

Following these comments by the Dolphins’ signal caller after Sunday’s game, head coach Mike MaDaniel stated that this should not have been said in a public forum and that such talks should remain within the team members themselves. He also added that there were no issues with players attending the team meetings, and whatever problems may be, those have occurred in the player-only meetings.

Next up for the Dolphins is a week 7 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, another team that is struggling with just one win from 6 games. It will be a good chance for Miami to play hard and strive for a second win of the season.
