Travis Hunter, who won the 2024 Heisman Trophy and one of the most electrifying prospects in NFL history, was selected as the No.2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars traded up from No. 5, sending the Cleveland Browns pick No. 5, 36, 126, and a 2026 first-rounder to secure the two-way star from Colorado. However, doubts have lingered about whether an NFL team would embrace his dual-role ambition due to physical demands and positional uncertainty. The Jaguars, unlike others, dispelled those concerns, boldly committing to Hunter’s two-way potential. They underscored this vision with two posts on X, one announcing him as a wide receiver and another as a defensive back, signaling their intent to let him shin on both sides of the ball.

Now, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Hunter to a historic contract, clearly signaling that they plan to keep him around for a long time and possibly build the roster around him in the future.

Hunter’s Record-Breaking Contract

Travis Hunter signed a historic four-year $46. 65 million fully guaranteed contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal was negotiated by Adie Von Gontard and Ray Haija of Young Money APAA Sports, and it includes a $30.57 million signing bonus paid entirely upfront, making Hunter the first non-quarterback not drafted No.1 overall to receiver his full bonus immediately.

The deal also features a fifth-year club option, standard for first-round picks. With an average annual salary of $11.7 million, Hunter’s contract clearly shows his unique value as a two-way player. Meanwhile for the Jaguars, their investment on Hunter signals confidence in his ability to transform the franchise, starting with their 2025 season opener against the Carolina Panthers on September 7, 2025.
