Arsenal finishied second below Liverpool l in the Premier League 2024/25 season. This is the third time in four years Mikel Arteta’s side has finished runners-up in the league. Moreover, waiting for a trophy for about five years now, the Gunners’ are speculating to make some recruitments over the summer.

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer. With clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool having interest, the Spanish midfielder is rumoured to have an interest in North London as per the latest reports. Zubimendi who started his career at Real Sociedad is set to bid farewell to the Spanish club as he looks for new opportunities.

Tracking the Potential Move of Real Sociedad’s Midfielder Zubimendi to the Gunners

Zubimendi started 33 games for Real Sociedad in the La Liga 2024/25 season as he also appeared in all nine games of Spain’s Nations League campaign. Having experience at just 26 years old, Zubimendi is one of the most important players on the market right now.

After weeks of speculations, famous journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest updates on Zubimendi to Arsenal deal. Sharing insights on the transfer, Romano in his report said:

“Arsenal agrees on a deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, here we go! Zubimendi has now verbally agreed to sign a long-term deal… so formal steps must follow soon with Arsenal to trigger €60m clause.”

Mentioning that Arsenal will trigger Zubimendi’s €60m clause, Romano confirmed Arteta’s first signing of the summer. With all the creative pressure being on Martin Odegaard, Zubimendi could add different dynamics to Arsenal’s midfield. Combining with Declan Rice, Thomas Partey and Leandro Trossard, Zubimendi could provide the lacking attacking depth in Arsenal’s midfield as well.

Zubimendi excels in recycling possession with quick, precise passes, often drawing opposition players to create space for teammates, as seen in his performances for both the club and Spain. At Real Sociedad, he’s been a linchpin, averaging 87% pass completion and 5.6 progressive passes per 90 minutes in La Liga last season.

Real Madrid also sought Zubimendi over the season. Making his professional debut in 2018, the midfielder has shaped himself into a complete player over the past years. Over 60 starts for Real Sociedad in La Liga since 2023, Zubimendi is set to take the Emirates Stadium centre next season.
