Tommy Paul holds the edge in ATP Head-to-Head matchups against Alexei Popyrin.
12th seeded, Tommy Paul will continue his 2025 Roland Garros campaign with a round of 16 tie against Alexei Popyrin. Paul came through a hard-fought third-round victory over Karen Khachanov, while Popyrin beat Nuno Borges in straight sets to setup the round of 16 matchup. Both players look solid on the clay court and it will be the first R16 matchup in the men’s singles.
Tommy Paul had a tough game in the third-round but held the nerves to clinch the five-set thriller against Khachanov. The American ace showed his strength in previous two matches where he played out five-setters. Paul made into the top 10 this season with a 24-8 record. He has been excellent on clay and dropped only three matches out of 14.

The 28-year-old made into the quarterfinals of Australian Open after reaching the top four in Adelaide Open as top seed. He had a semifinal run in the Dallas Open. In the Sunshine Double, Paul made the fourth round in Indian Wells and the third round in Miami. He became the first American man to make consecutive semifinals in the Rome Masters since 1994 (Pete Sampras). Before losing to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, Tommy beat Robert Bautista Agut, Tomas Machac, 7th seed Alex de Minaur, and Hubert Hurkacz.
Alexei Popyrin made into the round of 16 after a straight-set victory and it remains his best run at Roland Garros. The Australian ace has impressed on the clay after struggling on hard court. After three comfortable games, Popyrin gets a toughest opponent. Alexei Popyrin holds a poor 21-24 record against the American players but had a 6-matches winning streak against the top-20 players last season, including a victory against Djokovic.
Tommy Paul holds the edge in ATP Head-to-Head matchups against Alexei Popyrin. Paul leads 3-1 in the H2H meetings but it will be their first meeting on the clay court. They are also playing each other for the first time in Grand Slams.

Alexei Popyrin is yet to drop a set in the Roland Garros but he hasn’t faced a tough opponent en route to his best run at competition. Tommy Paul is going stronger on the clay and showed his best version in Italian Open. The former top-10 has a great control on the serves and he has a command in long rallies. In fifth set, he has a 9-4 career record and recently, overcame five-set thrillers in previous two games. It should be a cakewalk victory for the American ace.
Prediction: Paul to win in four sets.
