Thomas Tuchel Not Happy With Jude Bellingham Behaviour After Being Subbed

Thomas Tuchel was satisfied with England’s flawless qualifying campaign as they ended it with a 2–0 win against Albania on Sunday night. However, he still had an unwanted issue to address at the end of it. He was not happy at Jude Bellingham showing visible frustration after being substituted.

The midfielder was dubbed in the closing minutes of England’s win against Albania. The head coach then delivered a firm response. He stressed that the national team’s culture leaves no room for individual displays of irritation. Bellingham made his first England start since June. He had shown sparks of authority throughout the evening.

That is, before he was withdrawn in the 84th minute. Despite celebrating Harry Kane’s second goal moments earlier, his animated reaction to seeing his number raised to substitute immediately caught attention. The midfielder had already been booked. So, Tuchel seemed to be protecting both their lead and his eligibility for next summer.

Thomas Tuchel Emphasises Collective Conduct

The coach was clear that he would ‘review’ the episode but did not hide his disappointment. Speaking after the match, Tuchel said, “I saw that Jude Bellingham was not happy when he came off. I don’t want to make more out of it, but I stick to my words, behavior is key and respect towards the team-mates who come in.”

He added “Decisions are made and you have to accept it as a player.” The England manager pointed out that Morgan Rogers, who replaced Bellingham, had also faced tough choices in recent weeks. Rogers had started four consecutive matches previously. But he was rested to manage his workload.

Tuchel highlighted this contrast to reinforce his message. He stated that every player must handle the rotation policy with maturity, even when emotions run high. Bellingham did shake Tuchel’s hand before taking his seat. However, several teammates, including Dan Burn and Phil Foden, appeared to caution him as he walked off.

Many described Bellingham as desperate to prove himself after missing the previous camp. They acknowledged that he may feel he is “playing catch-up” as competition intensifies for the No. 10 role. Now Tuchel will have to handle these moments of tension within a squad that’s full of ambition and competition for places.

External Voices Defend Jude Bellingham

The reaction has not been universally critical. Carlo Ancelotti, who worked with Bellingham before at Real Madrid, recently defended Bellingham’s attitude. Ancelotti called him “a fantastic player” and insisted he has “no complaints” about his professionalism. Former England players also suggested that frustration is natural for highly driven players like him. But they also agreed Tuchel’s stance on standards is justified.
