England Make History: Three Lions Create Record After 2-0 Win Against Albania

England closed their World Cup qualifying campaign with a composed 2–0 win against Albania. With that win, they made history with a defensive record unmatched by any European nation in an extended qualifying format. Thomas Tuchel’s side completed eight wins in the qualifying round.

However, that wasn’t the record. They did it in eight games without conceding a single goal. That is an achievement built on consistent defensive setup, disciplined run of form, and a squad willing to adapt despite rotation. The match in Tirana demanded patience.

With both teams already secure in their respective positions, the opening hour was cautious. It was a scrappy game from the Three Lions but they still managed to stay without conceding. Albania attempted to disrupt rhythm through energetic breaks. Dean Henderson was then forced into action when Arber Hoxha found space at close range.

England replied through Jude Bellingham’s bursts from midfield and Jarrod Bowen’s early chances. However, the breakthrough remained elusive until the final stages. Harry Kane eventually delivered. Alert to a lapse in Albania’s marking at a corner, he reacted first from close range, guiding England in front.

His second goal was a firm header that came from a teasing cross from Marcus Rashford. The Three Lions captain’s instinctive reading of movement in the box has always been impeccable and it showed. The brace extended his personal tally further into all-time elite territory. It also showed his consistency under Tuchel.

Unmatched Discipline and Defensive Control for England

England’s back line had been tested across the campaign. Especially in the final two matches. Even so, key interventions at decisive moments kept their record intact. Henderson’s sweeping tackle late on ensured England would end qualifying without their net being breached. For a team that looked uncertain during the summer friendlies, the transformation has been striking.
