The Boston Celtics have had the shocker of a series so far against the New York Knicks. The second seeded team lost their home court advantage not once but twice. Knicks who had a major revamp before this year has seen post regular season success.
The heat on Boston is starting to turn, as they are one of the most expensive teams in the NBA, but their performances don’t reflect that. Reports already suggested that the 18 time NBA champions currently have a financially unsustainable roster. Plenty of off season moves are expected due to this.

However, with the kind of performances that the Jayson Tatum led side has had, the roster is likely to break even sooner. NBA analyst Brian Windhorst has suggested that the Boston Celtics are going to see major changes if they crash out against the New York Knicks in the semi-finals.
Brian Windhorst said, “The Celtics’ payroll next year is $500 million. There’s a possibility this team’s not gonna come back. They’re the most expensive team in the history of the game. If they don’t make it out of this series, I don’t know how you can justify spending $500 million on the roster again.”
The Boston Celtics have recently had an ownership change which further complicates the future of the current roster. The new owners who have spent significant money into the acquisition with partnership deals are likely to chop and change. They may not be keen on extending the luxury tax by a large margin that is currently being seen.
Celtics despite being the most expensive side has managed to win just one ring. They went on to beat the Dallas Mavericks in the final last season. Before that, the current roster made it to the finals once but were beaten by the Golden State Warriors. The current side remains young but many believe it has underachieved.
Coming into the current season, the Boston Celtics were the favorites to win the title. They dominated their way into the top of the Eastern Conference but fell short of the first seed as the Cleveland Cavaliers grabbed it. It was in the first round of the playoffs that the cracks started emerging for the Boston Celtics.
They couldn’t match Orlando Magic’s physicality and were left vulnerable with multiple injuries. Though they won the series 4-1, it didn’t look like a very convincing performance. Now, the Celtics are 2-0 down in the semi-finals going into a two game road trip.
