Real Madrid and Luka Modric announced that the Croatian midfielder will leave the club at the end of the season. Following a 13-year decorated career, Modric says ‘The Time Has Come’ as he bids farewell to Los Blancos and Santiago Bernabeu.

Modric joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 for a transfer fee of £30 million. The Croatian midfielder’s contract will expire in June 2025. His legacy will include being the club’s most decorated player and leader, serving as captain during the 2024-25 season.

Luka Modrić Bids Farewell to the Bernabéu

Midfield Maestro Modric in his emotional farewell text mentioned the 13 glorious years at Real Madrid. He reflects on joining the club in 2012 at the age of 26, initially facing challenges but ultimately contributing to one of the club’s most successful eras. During this period, the club won 28 major trophies, including six Champions League titles.

Talking about things beyond victories and trophies, Modric opened up about having the city of Madrid in his heart as he mentioned:

“But beyond the titles and victories, I carry in my heart the affection of all Madrid fans. I don’t know how to explain the special connection I have with you and how supported, respected and loved I have felt and feel. I will never forget each ovation and all the gestures of affection you have shown me.”

“I want to thank the club from the bottom of my heart, especially the president Florentino Perez, my teammates, coaches and all the people who have helped me during all this time.”

As per the report from Fabrizio Romano: ‘Luka Modrić planned to continue at Real Madrid, it was his dream to stay… but Real Madrid have decided to part ways and open a ‘younger era’.

Leaving with unforgettable memories, Luka Modric will go down as one of the greatest midfielders of his era. Guiding Real Madrid to several trophies, Modric won the Ballon d’Or 2018 for his efforts for club and country (Croatia) as well.

Appearing in over 500 games for Real Madrid, Modric was the architect of Real Madrid’s most successful era along with Toni Kroos. Partnering for six Champions League trophies, the duo was dominant on every turf the Los Blancos played on.

Modric has not hinted on retirement which means the 39-year-old will be available as a free agent this summer. Modric started in 16 La Liga games this season he will play his final game in a Real Madrid shirt this weekend against Real Sociedad.
