“The end is near” – Fans in disbelief as Cole Palmer misses first penalty ever for Chelsea

Abhinav Goel

Palmer has been Chelsea’s go-to man for penalties since his arrival from Manchester City.

Cole Palmer’s flawless penalty streak in the Premier League was dramatically broken on Sunday afternoon. The Chelsea star, who had previously converted 12 out of 12 spot-kicks, saw his perfect record shattered as Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen pulled off a great save to deny Palmer from the spot. In a moment that stunned Stamford Bridge, Palmer, who had been Chelsea’s most reliable penalty taker, failed to find the back of the net from the penalty spot for the first time in his Premier League career.

Palmer has been Chelsea’s go-to man for penalties since his arrival from Manchester City. Usually known for his ice-cold composure every time he steps up to take the penalty kick, this time Palmer was spurned by a terrific save from the Leicester goalkeeper. Hermansen guessed correctly and got a strong hand to keep the ball out. It was a defining moment in the match and a rare sight for Chelsea fans, who had come to expect Palmer to convert every single time.

Palmer’s goal drought continues

Beyond the missed penalty, Palmer has now gone over two months without scoring for Chelsea. His last goal for the Blues came on January 14th, and while his overall contributions have remained valuable, the lack of goals has been noticeable. Given Chelsea’s struggles this season, the Blues have relied on Palmer for attacking inspiration, and his failure to score in recent games has only added to the team’s inconsistency. While Palmer has shown great promise in his young career, the challenge now will be how he responds to this setback.
