The UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final fixtures kicked off on Thursday, and the bookmakers are citing Chelsea as heavy favorites to win the competition, while two-time runners-up Fiorentina were knocked out in the semi-final at the hands of Real Betis. The Violets would have been aiming to become the second Italian side to lift the trophy after failing to do so in the previous two seasons at the final stage, as West Ham United and Olympiacos defeated them in the final of the previous two seasons but Fiorentina fell short yet again, this time in the semi-finals.
While Real Betis have reserved their Europa League spot for the next season courtesy of their league position, Chelsea is fighting hard on the domestic front to qualify for the 2025-26 Champions League season ahead of in-form teams like Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.
Let’s have a look at the scores of the first leg of the UECL semi-finals:
Djurgarden 1-5 Chelsea
Real Betis 4-3 Fiorentina
Manuel Pellegrini’s men did themselves a huge favor when they opened up a 2-goal lead against Fiorentina in the first leg, but the Violets got a goal back in the 73rd minute, setting up an interesting second leg of the semi-final. Antony’s goal in the 30th minute of the second leg made things almost impossible for the Violets, but a brace from Robin Gosens helped the match go into extra time, where Abde Ezzalzouli scored the winning goal for the Spanish club.
On the other hand, Chelsea completely blew away Djurgarden as Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke scored in the first half in Stockholm while substitute Nicolas Jackson scored a brace opening up a 4-goal lead for the Blues which was later cut down to a 3-goal lead as the hosts managed to find the back of the net for the first time in the evening through substitute Isak Alexander Mulugeta. In the second leg, the Blues regained their 4-goal lead on aggregate as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the tie at Stamford Bridge.
Here is the full list of odds for all four sides remaining in the competition:
Chelsea: -250
Real Betis: +200
The form of forwards like Marc Guiu and Christopher Nkunku powered the Blues through the league phase as Chelsea finished as the only side to win all of their six matches in the league phase, in fact, no other team could even win 5 matches in the league phase with the 2nd-placed Vitoria grabbing 4 wins and 2 draws to finish with 14 points.
