A One-Sided Battle in Baltimore

This matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans had all the makings of a “fear game” in Week 5 of the AFC. After a heavy defeat last week against the Chiefs and without star quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Ravens were desperate to rebound in front of their home fans. On the other side, the Texans — a playoff regular the past two seasons — had struggled early in 2025 despite a morale-boosting win last week against the Titans.

But this Week 5 clash offered no suspense at all. From the opening minutes, the Texans took full advantage of Baltimore’s absences and defensive breakdowns to cruise to an effortless win. A dominant showing that might officially kickstart their season — and send the Ravens spiraling further into doubt.

Baltimore on the Brink

After last week’s lopsided loss to Kansas City, questions loomed large over the Ravens’ ability to bounce back this season. The early signs were alarming. In the first 30 minutes, Baltimore gained only 92 total yards on offense. Quarterback Cooper Rush did what he could, but the running game was nonexistent — Derrick Henry managed just 8 yards on 6 carries in the first half. To make matters worse, Tyler Loop missed a field goal that could have offered a glimmer of hope before halftime.

Houston’s offense, which had been inconsistent so far this year, found new life. Against a depleted Ravens defense, the Texans scored on all four of their first-half drives — three touchdowns and one field goal. The highlight? The chemistry between C.J. Stroud and Xavier Hutchinson, who connected for two touchdowns in the opening quarters.

At halftime, Houston led comfortably 24–3.

Houston Keeps Its Foot on the Gas

If the first half was bad for Baltimore, the second was a disaster. On the opening drive of the third quarter, Cooper Rush was intercepted at midfield by Jalen Pitre. Three plays later, Nick Chubb — back in familiar AFC North territory — broke free for another touchdown, extending Houston’s lead to 31–3. A Fairbairn long-range field goal soon made it 34–3, sealing the Ravens’ fate.

Baltimore managed to score once for pride’s sake, with Zay Flowers making a big play before Derrick Henry powered in for his 110th career rushing touchdown — moving past Walter Payton on the all-time list. But the late score was merely cosmetic. Houston’s defense stayed sharp, capped off by a second interception from Jalen Pitre.

Final Thoughts

This emphatic win confirms the Texans’ resurgence under DeMeco Ryans. After last week’s success, Houston’s offense appears to have found its rhythm and confidence. For the Ravens, however, alarm bells are ringing. Like the Bengals, they look far from competitive — and injuries to key starters are taking a visible toll. Unless Baltimore heals quickly, their once-promising 2025 campaign may unravel faster than expected.
