In another chapter of a rivalry that has given us some thrilling matches, World No. 4 Taylor Fritz will take on 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the US Open 2025 Quarterfinals. The clash has the potential to be one of the matches of the competition thus far. While the American is chasing his first major on home soil, his opponent is on the quest for ultimate glory. Who will come out on top? Keep reading as we take the help of BetMGM to preview the contest.
Having captured the runner-up trophy last year, Taylor Fritz will be desperate to go one step further at Flushing Meadows. It has been a whirlwind season for the 27-year-old American – with a semifinal in Miami being his only noteworthy accomplishment until May. In the grass court campaign, he won two trophies and reached the Wimbledon semifinals. Courtesy another final four outing in Toronto, the World No. 4 now has a record of 42-15 this year. With 329 aces and 90% service games won on hard courts in 2025, Fritz’s wins over Nava, Harris, Kym and Machac are barely shocking.

With the elusive 25th major being his only goal at the moment, Novak Djokovic has a challenging path ahead. He reached the Miami Open final earlier this year, but fell agonizingly short. But after capturing trophy No. 100 in Geneva, the Serbian sensation set his sights on Grand Slam glory. Djokovic has reached the semifinals of all the majors this year, but hasn’t managed to cross that hurdle. The No. 7 seed has improved his 2025 win-loss statistic to 30-9 after beating Tien, Svajda, Norrie and Struff this past week. Winning close to 80% points on first serve, he will fancy his chances against the higher ranked American.

Djokovic leads the head-to-head against Fritz by 10-0. Although the numbers suggest otherwise, numerous encounters between the two players have been closely contested.
Djokovic and Fritz have faced one another thrice at the Grand Slam level, before Tuesday. Seven out of their ten duels have been fought on hard courts, and five of them have been decided in straight sets. The Serb bested his American counterpart at this same stage of the US Open two years ago – in straight sets.

When it comes to a mental edge, Djokovic has had Fritz’s number for years now. The Serbian has historically applied pressure on the American during crucial junctures, and Fritz has succumbed. The 38-year-old will look to test the waters by moving Fritz around in the initial stages, before advancing high up to the baseline. Meanwhile, Djokovic’s superior defensive skills mean that Fritz will want to remain on the front foot and push the World No. 7 to the corners as much as possible. Remaining flawless on serve and keeping the points short will be of immense importance for the home favourite.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic in five sets.
Djokovic holds a slight edge over Fritz when it comes to the pre-match betting market. His 3/5 odds give him a favourable shot at advancing to the semifinal stage. According to the implied probability on the money line, Djokovic has a 61% chance of being the winner. Here’s what you need to know (as per BetMGM):
