Fritz won the Stuttgart title last week.
No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz will square off against Corentin Moutet of France in the 2025 HSBC Championships Round of 32 on Tuesday. This will be the first match-up between the two players in this rivalry. The winner of this encounter goes on to face British talent Jacob Fearnley in Round-2.
Taylor Fritz is coming into this match after winning his first title of 2025 at the Boss Open in Stuttgart. He has a 21-10 record this year, which also includes a semifinal in Miami. Unfortunately, the 27-year-old has managed to pick up only two wins across two Grand Slams this year. Taking into consideration his solitary grass court event, Fritz has held 95% service games and converted 45.5% break points.
On the other hand, Corentin Moutet will have no prior experience of facing Fritz to fall back on. The Frenchman tasted defeat at the hands of Alexander Zverev in Stuttgart – the same man whom Fritz overpowered in the final. Moutet has more losses than wins this year, and he is still searching for his maiden championship on the ATP circuit.

Taylor Fritz says Jannik & Carlos's recent dominance is motivating the men's tour & that he feels grass could help level the playing field 🤔

Everything points towards a straightforward Taylor Fritz win in this Round of 32 tussle. While the grass on the Andy Murray Arena has started to get worn out, the pace of the court is fast and low. Moutet could struggle to dictate play on the American’s serve, and his groundstrokes will not have the same spin, zing and bite as they do on clay. Expect the reigning US Open runner-up to prevail.
Prediction: Taylor Fritz in straight sets.
