The second-seeded, Taylor Fritz edged out Jiri Lehecka in a classic three-set thriller of the ATP National Bank Open in Toronto. The US No. 1 survived Lehecka 7-6(4), 6-7(2), 7-6(5) to reach the quarterfinals. This fourth-round match lasted for almost three hours with three tie-break. In a match with zero breaks of serve, Taylor Fritz showed a great character to clinch the epic clash.

Taylor Fritz Takes Glory in ‘No Break’ Match, Advances to 14th Masters 1000 Quarterfinals

Taylor Fritz and Jiri Lehecka produced a late-night masterclass which went in favor of the American ace. This fourth-round clash lasted 39 games without a break of serve. Both played won one tie-break each before heading to the final set. Fritz, the world No. 4, hit two aces in the final tiebreaker of the match and secured a narrow victory.

Both players were clutch in saving break points and they served brilliantly. Fritz has a significant edge on hard courts and the American ace showed it on Sunday night. Taylor Fritz reached his 14th career Masters 1000 quarterfinals and second in ongoing season.

“Making all the Masters quarters is really cool,” Fritz said. “It shows consistency. Today I had to accept that parts of my game were just not there. I was bailed out by a lot of first serves, but I was making too many mistakes.”

Regarding the service games, Fritz blasted 16 aces and conceded five double faults. However, the 27-year-old was excellent on serve to win 82% of his 1st serve and 63% on the second serve. This was the main reason for not conceding a single break during the match.

Fritz improved to 35-13 record this year, including 18-6 on hard court. He also joined an elite club of current players who reached the quarterfinals of each ATP Masters events. The US No. 1 will take on Andrey Rubelv next for the semifinals and it will be their 10th meeting on the ATP tour.
