The Kansas City Chiefs have managed to keep their undefeated tag for the 2024 regular season. The Chiefs, now 8-0, registered a hard-fought win over Tampa Bay in a game that went to overtime.
Patrick Mahomes and co. had to overcome resilience from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to keep their undefeated record intact. Trailing by 7 points entering the fourth quarter, the Chiefs turned on the heat when it mattered the most. After throwing the first touchdown pass, Mahomes had an ankle injury scare, and was helped off the field.
But the Chiefs QB came back to the field to lead a 15-play offensive drive that took over 8 minutes and resulted in another touchdown. But Tampa Bay responded with a touchdown of their own, pushing the game to overtime. In overtime, the Chiefs managed to score a touchdown on first possession, resulting in an automatic win.
If anything, the Chiefs game today was a testament to why Kansas City is the team to beat.
None of the throws from Mahomes were intercepted today, something that has been a matter of discussion for the NFL fans across the globe. The Chiefs scored 4 touchdowns as compared to Tampa Bay’s three. All 4 of the Chiefs’ touchdowns came at 3rd down, with Mahomes being 11 for 13 on 3rd downs.

In overtime, Kareem Hunt was rushed in to score the winning touchdown. Hunt carried the ball 27 times for 106 yards and 1 touchdown. Though Travis Kelce couldn’t get a touchdown in today’s game, he caught 14 passes for 100 yards.

It won’t be an exaggeration to say that Baker Mayfield and co. almost gave the Chiefs kingdom a scare tonight. Tampa Bay managed to score touchdown in clutch situations, including the one scored in the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter. This was the 10th touchdown scored by Baker Mayfield since 2022 at the 2-minute warning.
Cade Otton was caught 8 passes from Mayfield for 77 yards and scored a touchdown. The touchdown pass that helped Bucs push the game into overtime was caught by Ryan Miller. The Bucs are not 4-5 through week 9.
