Sydney Colson Injury Update: What Happened to Sydney Colson, and When Will She Return?

Akash

The Indiana Fever suffered a huge blow in the Thursday night game against the Phoenix Mercury. Sydney Colson went down with an injury causing depth issues for the Fever side who is already dealing with massive fitness issues.

What Happened to Sydney Colson?

Sydney Colson while grabbing a rebound buckled her knee on an awkward landing in the first quarter. She went down with visible pain as her teammates rushed to cover her from the cameras panned across the court.

The Fever medical staff quickly determined the point guard was not fit enough to continue playing. She was helped off the court straight into the locker room. The Indiana Fever continued the rest of the game with Aari McDonald.

Medical Evaluation to Determine Colson’s Absence

Sydney Colson’s injury looked harsh, however, a conclusion can only be determined after further tests. The veteran guard is due for multiple tests, but her absence is likely to go at least for multiple weeks. This comes as a significant setback for the Fever roster, already stretched thin by multiple ongoing injuries.

The side is already short, with Caitlin Clark sitting out since July 16. Now with Colson’s injury, they have only Aari McDonald for the point guard position. This could seriously hamper the playmaking ability of the team on the court.

The impact was clear as soon as Colson exited the game, exposing the team’s backcourt weaknesses immediately. The Indiana Fever were poor in offense and their backcourt issues were glaringly visible. They fell 60-95, suffering one of their most lopsided defeats of the season in a painful night.

Sophie Cunningham had also left the game with a left ankle issue, but she was back in action after a small break. Later, in a post match conference, she revealed that she was ok and suffered no major setbacks. She also talked about Sydney’s injury and suggested that it was a hump in their game and that they will need to adjust to it.
